March 23 - April 3

Sadly, the weather is getting more and more humid than it already is. I spent more time in the dorms and eating in dining hall, or at establishments around campus. On the bright side, it is cost-saving! I can save money eating on-campus than off-campus.

If you know me well enough, you would know I could not sit still for long. This Friday, I went on another full day adventure and this time to East Singapore. The area I visited was Joo Chiat, a colorful neighborhood with rich Peranakan heritage. The houses were beautifully pattered and outstanding murals decorated the streets. The most well known attraction in the area was the row of colorful houses in Peranakan pattern. Nearby in the same neighborhood was 328 Katong Laksa. Laksa is popular spicy noodle dish commonly found through Southeast Asia. It was delicious, but with my low-spice tolerance tongue, I needed to drink a sip of water after every bite.

For some reason this day, I had a burst of energy to walk from 328 Laksa to Gardens by the Bay. The distance was about 7km and took me less than two hours to complete. I did not walk to the Gardens. Instead, I rented a bike to go from the Marina Bay Sands hotel to Gardens. It was very affordable with a price of S$1 per hour. When biking, I found a bridge that led to the other side of the bay. I decided to take the risk and explore with no regret. There, I found a beautiful park named Tanjong Rhu. The sidewalks were wide so both bicyclists and pedestrians can share the road! That is something you can't really find in Hawaii.

There was also Hari Raya holiday this weekend. Hari Raya is Malay for "big (or grand) day of rejoicing". I went to one of the signature festivals at Geylang Serai to try their food and learn more about this holiday. My favorite was the tantuni.

Upcoming: My trip to Bali ;)
