[Week 0: Jan 9 - 11] Traveling to Singapore~

First time traveling alone and INTERNATIONALLY! Definitely have never imagined myself being able to do that.

This was my first time solo traveling for the first time! And for it to be 24 hours nonetheless alone...it can be scary. However, I would consider this a huge milestone in becoming a more independent individual. Being able to do things by yourself and realizing that you can create your own happiness (as cheesy as it sounds) is quite rewarding. It makes you realize that wow "I CAN do that" kind of feeling.

I flew ANA (All Nippon Airways) which took me from HNL, Hawaii -> HND, Japan -> SIN, Singapore. I had about five hours of layover at the Haneda Airport. If you prefer a shorter trip, I would definitely recommend flying from Hawaii to the Philippines instead rather than making an "L" like I did. Though for the experience and if you don't mind traveling, I highly recommend ANA! Their economy seats provide more legroom than any typical economy seats in other airlines! Their food was not bad and we got Haagen-Dazs ice cream as dessert.

Throughout my flights, I kept getting restless. Of course, I occasionally checked the map to see where the plane is at, and it seems as if it has not moved at all! Surprisingly, I was not tired from being so restless, because right when I landed in Changi Airport, Singapore, I was energized. I started exploring the morning I landed. I have NEVER been to Singapore before and everything in the airport seemed so clean and modern. It was a quick process going through immigration. With just a quick picture of you and scan of your passport, you are free to go! I honestly thought I would be held back and questioned because of the many warnings I have received from people about Singapore being strict on everything. But, everything went smooth and was thankfully not questioned!

After unloading my suitcases and settling down, I wanted to explore the campus! There were many findings which I will list below~

  • NUS has their own bus system. They are FREE. However, make sure to take the buses with letters because one route (such as 95) requires payment.

  • Kent Ridge MRT is just 15 minutes away from campus. The MRT is right in the hospital, has a small plaza with a grocery store, and lots of food options
